Momma’s Hip Hop Kitchen

Momma’s Hip Hop Kitchen Volume 3, Back to Our Roots, will be honoring 100 years of International Women’s Month by shedding light and creating awareness on Environmental Injustices and Educational Inequalities and their impact on women of color.
Momma’s Hip Hop Kitchen will bring together women of color educators, students, environmentalists, djs, emcees, b-girls, poets, visual artists, dancers, healers, pastors, organizers and activists. We will come together through a hip hop showcase to express our solidarity with women’s rights!
This event will take place in the South Bronx, the birthplace of Hip Hop, and the poorest congressional district in the nation, also called “The Forgotten Borough.” In reality, the borough of the Bronx is not forgotten because one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the city, Riverdale, lies just northwest and has every amenity a human can ask for.
Hostos Community College will be hosting Momma’s Hip Hop Kitchen event for the second year in a row. Hostos Community College was created in 1968 in response to demands from the Latino community who were urging for the establishment of a college to serve the people of the South Bronx. Hostos was the first bilingual higher education institution in the United States.
The South Bronx is a community that has been in constant resistance, seeking justice in education and the environment. It is a community resisting pollution, asthma, toxic wasteland, and budget cuts for art, music, and gym programs. It is a community that lacks access to healthy fruits and vegetables, adequate health care and after school programs. The South Bronx’s need for reproductive and sexual health education is highly reflected in its high levels of HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections.
In place of access to healthy alternatives, the South Bronx has an over abundance of jails and prisons.
However, the South Bronx is not lost. It has experienced a period of healing through leadership guided by community organizations and collectives. This leadership has lead to the creation of new parks, food co-ops, recycling programs, and successful cultural community centers. We have won many amazing victories as a community!
Join us as we fuse our energy, our politics, our ancestry, our traditions, art, song and dance into a brew for Environmental Justice and Education Equality.

According to today’s Metro New York, “Turnout for today’s runoff elections is expected to be even lower than the miserable 10% of Democrats who voted in the primary two weeks ago.”
Okay, now what do you expect! You aren’t giving the people what they want, need, or deserve. Right now people don’t give a flying fuck about politics or politicians. How dare you expect people to take time out of their busy lives to vote for people they don’t even know. Yes, I don’t know You! What do you stand for? What are you doing for my community, better yet, what are you doing for our schools??? How about Immigration? Wheres the Health Care for working families that can only afford to pay rent??
VOTE FOR YOU?? Why would I vote for you? Tell me what you stand for and show me what you’ve done lately if you want me to take time out of my busy schedule to vote for you.

“The world situation that life is presenting us with in the 21st century is a natural outcome of the state of consciousness that has created it.
“People having an internal system for understanding life that is based on limited thought processes and giving a view of themselves as separate and insecure individuals, naturally creates a world full of conflict and fear.
“But consider that this may also be part of a perfect unfolding!
“This may be how life works, that each stage of consciousness along the way in our development brings with it its own crisis.
“Each crisis forces individuals to question their current reality system, and to try to find a new stability by stretching into new versions of themselves with fuller capabilities and by outgrowing any old habits that no longer support them.
“Life creates situations that cannot be solved at their own level because the ways of seeing and knowing that have brought us to this point aren’t working anymore. Our old paradigms and models are failing us and we are forced to let go of our old ways of constructing reality and look again to see what we have missed.”

Synopsis:
Synopsis:
Plateau. It represents the walk of life and being on top followed by an ubrupt end. It would have been easy to say, THE HOLY GHOST and talk show hosts are planted in the sand. This means the writer is addressing, holy ghosts and talk show hosts, as being peoples false concepts of what it means to be on top, and those things aren’t there, however, they greet you on the way, yet are not on top. Once on top you are done with your life’s achievement and their’s nothing to show for it but an illustrated book about birds, which I see as spending your whole life working to create something detailed yet unimportant. Have you heard of the saying, “That’s for the birds.”? If you haven’t it basically means, “that’s obsolete, unimportant, or a waste”. At the end of the plateau is a cliff, representing an end in some fashion. It is an end to life or nothing else to conquer.
“Finished with the mop then you can stop and look at what you’ve done” This is saying that people don’t even stop to reflect on their life. They just keep desiring and seeking something better, Greenland or Mexico, which are new achievements to conquer. This doesn’t include the people who think the best place is where they stood. These people are content with their life’s achievement. Its saying they wouldn’t help you if they could, because its pointing out human nature in that people act selfishly and most people are only concerned about their own plateau. Most of the lyrics is a storyline, but the writer does try to give a lesson in word format in the song.
“See a lot up there but don’t be scared who needs action when you got words” This is saying, I’ve been to the top. You’ll see alot of things as you walk through life. Don’t doubt yourself. You don’t need all the crowning achievements to master your own walk of life. You have words. Wisdom is the achievement!
“Others decided it was nowhere except for where they stood but those were all just guesses, wouldn’t help you if they could” Notice how the writer does not limit his song to all the others wouldn’t help you if they could, just “others”.
One more thing… Use your life’s work and achieve something more important than an illustrated book about birds. Remember the plateau ends.
